[Video Highlights] Fulham 0-1 Arsenal: Mertesacker Goal Sends Gunners Third

Arsenal made extremely hard work of beating Fulham on Saturday afternoon after playing against 10-men for almost 80 minutes.

Former Arsenal midfielder Steve Sidwell was dismissed in just the 12th minute for a nasty lunge on Mikel Arteta and it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for the hosts. However, the Gunners were well below par and failed to really make their man advantage count. They got the all important winner just before half time when Per Mertesacker headed home from close range but it was to be a nervy last few minutes as Olivier Giroud was also dismissed for a similar over-the-top challenge in the 90th minute.

But Arsenal held on to secure a vital three points and move third in the Premier League ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham’s games on Sunday. Watch highlights from the game here:
