United Confirm Rio Ferdinand Has Signed New One-Year Contract
Manchester United have announced that defender Rio Ferdinand has ended speculation over his future by signing a new one-year contract extension at Old Trafford
Manchester United have announced that defender Rio Ferdinand has signed a new one-year contract with the club.
The centre-back’s current deal was due to expire next month and there had been speculation suggesting that the 34-year-old could be set to end his 11-year association with United and take up a new challenge.
However, the champions have now reached an agreement that will see Ferdinand complete his 12th season at the club, with the London-born ace ready to compete with Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones for a starting spot under new boss David Moyes next season.
After signing the deal, Rio Ferdinand expressed his delight at committing his future to the club and insists he’s looking forward to working under Moyes next term. He told ManUtd.com:
“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Who wouldn’t want to play in this fantastic team in front of 75,000 fans each week, it has been an incredible journey and I am glad it will continue. I can now fully concentrate on my club career, which has worked well for me over the past few years”
“This is a great team to be part of and we are now moving into a new era with the club which is very exciting. I have met with David I am really looking forward to working with him and winning many more trophies with this great club”.
Ferdinand has made 432 appearances for United since making a big-money move from West Ham back in 2002, and has won six Premier League titles, one Champions League and three League Cups so far at Old Trafford.
