Transfer News: Arsenal Eye £12m Skrtel Move – Thiago Speaks Out On Man Utd Reports

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal eye a £12m move for Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel and Thiago Alcantara speaks out about reports linking him with Manchester United.

Gunners eye Skrtel

First up and the Sun are reporting that Arsenal are lining-up a £12m move for out-of-favour Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel this summer.

The Slovakian centre-back enjoyed an excellent 2011/12 season and he was handed a new contract until 2016 after being voted as the clubs player of the year. However, things turned sour for him under new boss Brendan Rodgers last campaign and he found himself on the bench for much of the second half of the season with Jamie Carragher preferred alongside Daniel Agger at the back.

The 6ft 4in defender is expected to move on this summer and the Sun claim Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the 28-year-old’s and is lining-up a £12m bid as he looks to add to his defensive options ahead of next season.

Thiago coy on United reports

Next up and Sky Sports News quote Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara as saying he’s happy at the Nou Camp but will consider his future after this summers Under-21 European Championship amid reports linking him with Manchester United.

The 22-year-old struggled to force his way into the Barcelona starting eleven on a regular basis last term and Sky Sports claim his buy out clause has now dropped from €90million to €18million as he failed to play 30 games or more than 60% of the Catalans games last season.

The report suggests champions United are keen on luring him to the Premier League this summer however when asked about the reported interest from England, Alcantara refused to be drawn on the speculation but did reveal he’ll consider his future after the upcoming Euro’s:

“I just live my life and I am very happy,”

“I enjoy it in Barcelona because I have lived through some great times but we will see what happens after the Euros.

“Any player is used to living with rumours about him and they just cannot affect you.” Alcantara is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
