Passi Confirms Interest In Arsenal Misfit – Wenger’s Coffers To Be Boosted Further?
Good news Gooners! French side Marseille have confirmed their interest in signing Arsenal misfit Gervinho this summer, according to a report from the Daily Mail
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Marseille are interested in Arsenal attacker Gervinho.
Good news Gooners! French outfit Marseille have confirmed their interest in signing Arsenal misfit Gervinho this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The 26-year-old arrived in north London with a fine reputation after two excellent seasons with Lille which saw him score 36 goals and provide 16 assists in 93 games during a two year spell and he played a key role in winning the Ligue 1 title in 2010.
However, the Ivory Coast international has struggled to cement himself as a first team regular at the Emirates Stadium since making an £11m move in 2011 and he made just 26 appearances last season in what was a disappointing campaign for the attacker.
It seems Gervinho could be offered an escape route back to France this summer with Marseille assistant coach Franck Passi confirming their interest in signing the player:
‘This is a profile that interests us, yes. We want flank players, with dribbling, passing and scoring and Gervinho has this profile.’ Passi is quoted as saying by the Mail
Gervinho is a hugely frustrating player to watch as he shows flashes of brilliance at times but usually ends up wasting the opportunity with a poor final ball or finish. He seems to be a confidence player and never really recovered from the abuse he received following a shocking miss against Bradford City in the Capital One Cup, so perhaps a move away this summer would suit both parties.
The Mail claims boss Arsene Wenger already has a warchest of £70m to spend this summer and the sale of Gervinho could see that figure swell past £80m, with the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain reported targets.
