Arsenal & Chelsea Dealt Blow With Rooney Set For United Stay
Arsenal and Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Wayne Rooney with David Moyes set to confirm this afternoon the striker is staying at Man Utd.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Wayne Rooney is set to stay at Man Utd.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Wayne Rooney with David Moyes set to confirm this afternoon that the striker is staying at Manchester United, according to the Express.
The 27-year-old’s future was thrown into doubt towards the end of last season when then manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the striker had asked to leave the club after being left out of some key fixtures, including the decisive Champions League second leg against Real Madrid.
Rooney has been strongly linked with a move to London in recent weeks, with both Arsenal and Chelsea reported to have made their interest known to the champions and some newspapers have even claimed offers in the region of £20m had been submitted.
However, the Express are one of several media outlets who’re reporting that new boss David Moyes is set to announce that the forward has agreed to stay at Old Trafford after holding clear-the-air talks with the club.
The report claims that Rooney and his agent Paul Stretford sat down with Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward, where it was agreed that the player did NOT ask for a move during a meeting with Fergie last April, and he will now stay with United as long as the club make it clear to supporters he did not request a transfer away.
Moyes is set to hold his first press conference on Friday afternoon at 4pm where he’s expected to confirm the news.
