Arsenal Have Formal £30m Offer For Luis Suarez Rejected By Liverpool
Arsenal have had an audacious £30m formal offer for striker Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool, but Chelsea are also monitoring the players situation closely.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal have a £30m offer for Suarez turned down.
Arsenal have had an audacious £30m formal offer for striker Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool, according to the Telegraph.
The report claims the Gunners launched the move early last week with representatives from the north London club making contact with Liverpool and tabling an opening offer of £30m for the controversial hitman – which was immediately knocked back by the Merseysiders.
The Telegraph claim that Chelsea are also interested in signing the 26-year-old but have yet to make a formal offer. Brendan Rodgers is desperate to hang on to his star man and the club have so far insisted they will repel any interest that comes in, despite the player making noises that he’s unsettled in England.
Some Reds fans may understand Suarez moving abroad but seeing him join the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea would be difficult to stomach for the Anfield faithful. Liverpool have been bracing themselves for interest in Suarez this summer but it was widely expected that Real Madrid would be the club pushing for his signature, not Arsenal, so it’s fair to say the Gunners move has surprised many.
It’s difficult to imagine that Arsenal thought a £30m offer was going to be enough to persuade Liverpool into selling them Suarez, so its easy to see why the newspaper has suggested the move was simply a ploy to try and force Madrid into completing a deal for Gonzalo Higuain. They are also correct when saying it can’t be a coincidence that Arsenal’s bid to sign Higuain has edged closer since the Gunners tabled their offer for Suarez.
One things for sure, £30m was never going to land Suarez – particularly coming from a Premier League rival – but it was certainly an intriguing move by Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether they, or Chelsea for that matter, will come back in with a better offer.
