Chelsea To Trump Arsenal With £40m Suarez Bid After Agent Confirms Striker Wants Out
Chelsea are lining up a £40m offer for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after seeing Arsenal fail with an opening bid of £30m last week, according to the Mirror.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are set to make their move for want-away Luis Suarez.
Chelsea are lining up a £40m offer for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after seeing Arsenal fail with an opening bid of £30m last week, according to the Mirror.
The report claims the Uruguayan hitman has made clear his desire to leave Anfield for Real Madrid this summer but with the Spaniards yet to make any official approach, it seems some of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals are eyeing a sensational swoop.
It was widely reported over the weekend that Arsenal saw their £30m offer rejected out-of-hand by the Merseysiders but now the Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho is keen on luring Suarez to Stamford Bridge and is hoping an offer of £40m will be taken more seriously by Liverpool.
The Reds remain determined to try and hang on to the 26-year-old but the BBC claim Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, told the club during planned talks on Monday that his client still wants to leave Anfield this summer.
Guardiola is understood to have held separate talks with both Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre and although both meetings are said to have been ‘amicable’ and no formal transfer request was submitted, the BBC believe the agent reiterated Suarez’s desire to leave to play for a club in the Champions League.
This news will come as a major boost to the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, but while Suarez may want Champions League football, it would be a huge shock if the South American was prepared to remain in the Premier League after his repeated complaints about how he’s been treated in England since his move from Ajax in January 2011.
Liverpool are also highly unlikely to welcome any further interest from their domestic rivals and if they are forced into selling their star man, they would surely look to offload him abroad, so it’s still unlikely we’ll see Suarez join either Arsenal or Chelsea this summer.
It’s going to be an intriguing few weeks and it seems the future of Suarez is going to be dominating the back pages for some time to come. My bet is he’ll be lining up alongside Ronaldo at the Bernabeu next season.
