Suarez Speaks Out On Arsenal & Chelsea Interest
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has responded to reports linking him with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea, saying he’s flattered by the interest being shown in him
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Luis Suarez speaks out amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has responded to reports linking him with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea and while he claims to be flattered by the interest being shown in him, he insists no offers are on the table yet, according to Sky Sports News.
The controversial Uruguayan hitman has been tipped to leave Anfield this summer with Arsenal reported to have had an opening bid of £30m turned down by Liverpool last week.
Fresh reports in this mornings newspapers suggested London rivals Chelsea were lining-up a £40m offer of their own with new boss Jose Mourinho said to be keen on luring the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge this summer, while Spanish giants Real Madrid are understood to be the favourites to land the former Ajax man if he does leave Merseyside.
According to Sky Sports, Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola, held talks with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre on Monday where he reiterated the strikers desire to leave for a team who could offer Champions League football.
Suarez has now spoken on Uruguayan radio station, Sport 890, and while he claims that no offers have come in for his services yet, he insists he’s relaxed and that Liverpool are aware of what he wants.
“There have been no offers yet, but Liverpool know exactly what is going on and what I want,”
“My agent is in charge, he knows what I want, I am resting and relaxed. I am due back in about ten days, on the 21st of July (for the friendly with Melbourne Victory)… a phone call could change everything.” Suarez said according to Sky Sports
It’s an interesting choice of words from the striker and at no point does he deny wanting to leave or commit his future to Liverpool, so if you read between the lines I think it’s clear he wants out.
He was also quizzed on the Arsenal and Chelsea reports and Suarez said he’s happy to be linked with the likes of Arsenal and laughs when friends say he’s joining Chelsea, before suggesting people don’t always believe what they read. He continued:
“It’s good to know that I am still valued by teams like Arsenal. Friends call me up to ask if I am moving to Chelsea, to which I laugh.
“Don’t believe everything you read or hear! I am sometimes off the grid. I don’t even know where my phone is sometimes.”
While we’ve been lead to believe Suarez wants out of England due to the supposed rough treatment he’s received here, it’s once again intriguing that he didn’t rule out joining Arsenal or Chelsea when asked.
I still fully expect Suarez to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid this summer but perhaps the idea of him joining a Premier League rival isn’t quite as ridiculous as once thought. Whether Liverpool would be willing to do business with a domestic rival is another thing entirely, though.
Anyway, how long do you think it will be before Liverpool release a statement saying Suarez’s comments have been taken ‘out of context’ or they’ve been ‘misinterpreted’?
