United Ready To Battle Arsenal For Fabregas AND Fellaini
Manchester United could be set to go head-to-head with Arsenal over the double signing of midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Marouane Fellaini, according to reports.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United are eyeing a double swoop for Cesc Fabregas and Marouane Fellaini.
Manchester United could be set to go head-to-head with Arsenal over the double signing of Cesc Fabregas and Marouane Fellaini, according to the Guardian.
It was widely reported on Monday that United had made the first move to try and lure Fabregas back to the Premier League after submitting a £26m offer, but the ball is very-much in Arsenal’s court if Barcelona decide to cash in with the Gunners believed to have secured first option to re-sign the midfielder for a fixed fee of £25m.
Arsenal are yet to make any formal move for their former skipper but the Daily Mail reported last week that Arsene Wenger was keen on bringing him back to the Emirates and was prepared to sanction the £25m move if Barca were willing to sell.
With potentially Arsenal and United interested, Fabregas would have a tough decision to make over whether to link up with his old pal Robin van Persie at Old Trafford, or make an emotional return to north London. You’d think the 26-year-old would prefer a move back to his old club due to the connection he has with Arsenal, but the lure of playing for the champions could prove tempting for the Spaniard.
The two clubs could also be set to clash over the signing over Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini with the Guardian claiming David Moyes wants to pair the giant Belgian alongside Fabregas next season.
Moyes took the 25-year-old to Goodison Park from Standard Liege in 2008 and the newspaper suggests the Scot wants to bring him with him to Old Trafford this summer and is now considering returning to his former club with an offer. However, Arsenal have also been strongly credited with an interest in Fellaini in recent weeks with Arsene Wenger understood to be lining-up a bid of his own, so the pair could be set to clash over the signing of the 6ft 4in Belgian as well.
Fellaini is understood to have a £23m release clause that expires in mid-August, so any interested party will have to make their move soon or risk having to pay a much higher fee.
The summer transfer window is certainly hotting up and it seems two of England’s heavy-weights could be ready to clash over two marquee signings. Watch this space…
