With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are linked with a move for Alessandro Matri while Man Utd are yet to bid for Nicolas Castillo.

Reds eye Matri

First up and the Express are reporting that Liverpool are eyeing a move for out-of-favour Juventus forward Alessandro Matri this summer.

The report claims boss Brendan Rodgers is already lining-up potential replacements for want-away striker Luis Suarez and has identified Matri as a potential recruit. The 28-year-old is expected to be made available for transfer this summer after Juve signed Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente and it seems Liverpool could offer him an escape route to the Premier League.

Rodgers has already brought in striker Iago Aspas this summer but should Suarez force his way out of Anfield, the Merseysiders will need reinforcements and the Express claim Matri is in their thoughts.

The Italian international has struggled for form over the last 12 months after finding himself in and out of coach Antonio Conte’s starting eleven, and he only managed 10 goals in all competitions last season. However, his talent is obvious and perhaps a fresh start in England would help him rediscover his past form.

United yet to bid for Castillo

Next up and Sky Sports News are reporting that despite reports suggesting otherwise, Manchester United are yet to make a formal offer for Chile starlet Nicolas Castillo.

The 20-year-old caught the eye playing alongside United’s Angelo Henriquez at the recent Under-20’s World Cup where he finished as one of the tournaments top goalscorers with 4 goals.

Sky Sports claim reports have suggested United had tabled a £4m bid for the Universidad Catolica youngster, but while the Chilean clubs sporting director, Jose María Buljubasich, admits the player is keen to make a move this summer, he denies that any formal bid has come in as yet.

“We can’t deny that Nicolas wants to be sold, as any talented young player would. However, there is no formal offer yet.

“There is interest, but I reaffirm that there is nothing concrete. We understand what he needs, but there is a structure at the club.”
