Rooney ‘Open’ To Arsenal Or Chelsea Move After Being Left ‘Angry & Confused’ By Utd
Wayne Rooney’s future has been plunged into doubt with the striker looking to leave Old Trafford after being left angry and frustrated at Utd’s latest comments
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Wayne Rooney has put his Man Utd future in further doubt.
Wayne Rooney’s future has been plunged into further doubt with the striker looking to leave Old Trafford after being left ‘angry and frustrated’ at Manchester United’s latest comments, according to Sky Sports News.
Sky Sports sources have told reporter Kaveh Solhekol that the 27-year-old striker feels he is in the prime of his career and doesn’t think he should be regarded as second choice to any player, and has been left ‘angry and confused’ by how he’s been treated by the club. A source told Sky Sports:
“Rooney believes he is at the peak of his career and has no intention of becoming a squad rotation player or by playing second fiddle to anyone at Old Trafford.
“He believes he has nothing left to prove after nine successful seasons – yet that is what is being suggested by reports in the media which have interpreted the club’s statement as meaning he’s currently on trial for the coming season.
“Since he’s returned from the pre-season tour due to injury, Rooney has been in touch with the club and spoken to David Moyes on the phone – he is angry and confused at the way he’s been treated.”
Solhekol also claims his sources have indicated that Rooney is so unhappy that he will now look for a move this summer and is open to the idea of moving to London, with Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked with a move for the striker in recent weeks.
Rooney flew home from United’s pre-season tour of the Far East with an apparent hamstring problem that United claimed would keep him out for 4 weeks, but Sky Sports claim he expects to be fit for the start of the new season.
The comments that appear to have riled Rooney came from United manager David Moyes, who hinted at the weekend that the former Everton man is seen as a back-up to Robin Van Persie and reminded the player that he isn’t bigger than the club.
“Overall, my thought on Wayne is, if for any reasons we had an injury to Robin van Persie, we’ll need him.
“Wayne can play up on his own, he can play dropped in. It’s going to be a time to see how I work with Wayne.
“Manchester United isn’t about Wayne Rooney. Manchester United is about the team – the club.
“I won’t allow Wayne Rooney to become more important than the football club and the football team, because that’s the heart of it.” Moyes is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
Rooney has two years left to run on his United contract and he may also have been angered by chief executive Ed Woodward comments when he claimed an extension wasn’t on the agenda and the club were prepared to let him run down his current deal.
“No contract renewals are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary.
“Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not.” Woodward is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
While Rooney has stopped short of releasing any official statement, it seems he’s ‘leaked’ his unhappiness out to the press and it will be interesting to see where things go from here and how United will respond. Arsenal and Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on developments, that’s for sure, with Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho likely to offer the England ace an escape route to London if he manages to force a way out of Manchester this summer.
