Transfer News: United Launch £15m Move For French Midfielder
Manchester United have made a £15million offer for unsettled Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye – who is keen to secure a move away from St James Park.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester United have made a move for Yohan Cabaye.
Manchester United have made a £15million offer for unsettled Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to the Mirror.
The report claims new United boss David Moyes is desperate to add a creative midfielder to his ranks this summer following the retirement of Paul Scholes. All the talk in recent weeks has centered around the possible signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona with Moyes confirming today that the club have tabled an improved bid for the Spaniard.
However, it seems the Scot is weighing-up potential alternatives in case the Fabregas deal doesn’t come off with the Mirror suggesting he’s also gone in for French ace Cabaye and has tested the water with an opening offer of £15m.
The newspaper claims big-spending Ligue 1 clubs PSG and Monaco are also interested in the 27-year-old but the former Lille midfielder is understood to be keen on staying in the Premier League after hinting he was looking for a fresh start after two years at St James’ Park.
Cabaye has bagged 10 goals in 60 Premier League games since his move to Newcastle in 2011 and with an excellent array of passing as well as an eye for goal, he’d be an excellent addition to the squad at Old Trafford if Moyes can pull off a deal.
But the player still has three years left to run on his current contract and Newcastle are keen to keep hold of him, so United may have to increase their offer if they want to persuade the Geordies into selling one of their prized assets this summer.
