Suarez Believes Liverpool Have To Accept Arsenal’s Bid After Missing Out On Top 4
Luis Suarez believes that Liverpool are duty-bound to accept Arsenal’s £40,000,001 bid due to the complex clause in the strikers contract, according to reports
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, more on the future of Luis Suarez.
Luis Suarez believes that Liverpool are duty-bound to accept Arsenal’s £40,000,001 bid due to the complex clause in the strikers contract, according to the Independent.
The Gunners submitted the unusual offer on Tuesday and Liverpool once again rejected it out-of-hand, insisting it still doesn’t meet their valuation of the player.
However, the Independent claim that Suarez has been left mystified by the rejection as he and his agent, Pere Guardiola, believe the much talked about clause in his contract means the Merseysiders HAVE to accept any bid over £40m after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League last season. The newspaper suggests that lawyers could now be called in to scrutinise the exact wording of the strikers contract and settle the dispute.
The 26-year-old is expected to inform boss Brendan Rodgers today that he wants to hold official talks with the Gunners and is keen to secure a move, and the north Londoners believe their latest offer entitles them to speak with the player.
But Liverpool’s take on things is very different. Rodgers was asked today if the clause merely entitled Suarez to be told of any bid above £40m, to which he replied:
“Absolutely, there is nothing more than that.” Rodgers was quoted as saying in the Telegraph
This saga is shaping up to get very messy indeed and Arsenal fans will no doubt be hoping that Arsene Wenger knows what he’s doing and is confident he can land Suarez after seeing Gonzalo Higuain move a step closer to sealing his move to Napoli after completing his medical on Wednesday.
The worry for Arsenal of course will be that Real Madrid now use the money generated from the sale of Higuain to launch a move for Suarez, so you’d expect the Londoners to want a quick resolution before that happens.
