Brendan Rodgers Offers Update On Luis Suarez
Brendan Rodgers wants the situation with Luis Suarez resolved amicably but has warned the striker he wont play again until he shows 100% commitment to the club
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Brendan Rodgers speaks out on Luis Suarez once again.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants the situation with Luis Suarez resolved ‘amicably’ but has warned the striker he wont play again until he shows he’s 100% committed to the club.
Reports in Monday mornings newspapers suggested that Suarez was refusing to apologise for publicly declaring his desire to leave Liverpool for Arsenal with the 26-year-old insisting the Merseysiders have reneged on a verbal and written agreement to allow him to leave for a club playing in the Champions League this season.
Liverpool are adamant no agreement is in place and owner John W Henry has categorically ruled out selling the Uruguayan hitman this summer, saying it would be ‘ludicrous’ to sell to Arsenal.
The stand-off has seen Rodgers force Suarez to train alone with neither side willing to back down and while the Reds boss claims he wants the situation resolved amicably, he warned the striker he wont be introduced back in to the squad until he shows he’s fully committed to the cause.
He told the club website:
“It is something that we have to do everything we can to fix.
“There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required.
“If you don’t have that commitment, and those standards, then you won’t play. It’s as simple as that.
“If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it. But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be.
“There’s no problem between me and him, it is quite calm. But obviously I have got to respect the club and the team.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, if they’re not pulling their weight then they are letting down the club, the city and everyone who has stood by them.
“So until I get that assurance that we are going to get nothing but 100% commitment, then there will be no solution.”
Arsenal are expected to test Liverpool’s resolve with an improved offer this week, despite the Anfield club insisting they wont sell, with Arsene Wenger understood to be confident a deal could still be struck and he’s hoping to hold peace talks with the Mersey outfit soon.
With just three weeks left until the transfer window closes, it’s difficult to see how Liverpool would be able to find a suitable replacement in time unless they’ve already set the wheels in motion.
