Arsenal Given Renewed Hope As Suarez Denies Saying He’s Staying At Liverpool
Arsenal have been given new hope in their pursuit of Luis Suarez after the striker dismissed claims he’s performed a u-turn and decided to stay at Liverpool.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal given new hope in Luis Suarez chase.
In what’s been a hectic day of rumour and counter-rumour, Arsenal have been given new hope in their pursuit of Luis Suarez after the striker dismissed claims he’d decided to stay at Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports emanating from Uruguay on Wednesday morning claimed the 26-year-old had told reporters that he had decided to stay at Anfield after being persuaded to do a u-turn due to the support from the clubs fans.
Supposed quotes in Uruguayan newspaper El Observador read:
‘For now, due to all of the people’s affection (for me), I will be staying.’ Suarez said
South American journalist Martin Chaquero then appeared to back-up these claims, saying on his personal Twitter account that he had personally spoken to Suarez who had confirmed he was staying at Liverpool and could even sign a new contract.
‘Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans has influenced his decision,’ Chaquero said.
‘Suarez see it as likely that he’ll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool.’
‘Sources close to Luis Suarez have confirmed his decision to stay at Liverpool.’
Liverpool fans rejoiced, while Arsenal fans had that feeling of deja vu that another top target had slipped through their fingers.
However, Arsenal have been given fresh hope after the player has now been quoted as saying these quotes are false. Speaking after scoring in 4-2 friendly win over Japan on Wednesday afternoon, the striker apparently told Japan’s Kyodo news channel:
‘I didn’t say that, maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team,’ Suarez is quoted as saying by the Mail
So within the space of a few hours Suarez has gone from doing a u-turn and staying at Liverpool, to denying he’s changed his mind. Who knows what’s going to happen next with this saga but thankfully there are only 18 days left of the transfer window, so it will all be over soon!
