Arsenal Representative Due In Valencia Today To Hold Talks Over Vicente Guaita
Arsenal representatives will arrive in Valencia on Tuesday to hold talks over the potential signing of goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, according to reports in Spain.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with a move for Vicente Guaita.
Arsenal representatives will arrive in Valencia on Tuesday to hold talks over the potential signing of goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, according to reports in Spain.
The Gunners have endured a frustrating summer in the transfer market with Arsene Wenger only able to bring in the free signing of Yaya Sanogo so far after missing out on a host of top names.
The fans vented their anger at the Frenchman after Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League season and it seems that loss may have sparked the Arsenal boss into action in the transfer market.
Local Valencia based media outlet, Superdeporte, claim Arsenal representatives are expected to arrive in Spain today to meet with Valencia over Vincente Guaita with a view to taking the unsettled goalkeeper to the Emirates.
The 6ft 3in stopper has lost his place in the starting line-up to Diego Alves and is understood to be keen on a move to secure regular first team football. The 26-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Barcelona earlier in the summer but the Catalans were put off by his €30m buy-out clause which was inserted into the players contract when he signed it two years ago.
He still has two years left to run on that deal but the report coming out of Spain suggests that while Valencia would prefer to keep hold of him, they may be prepared to sell for less than his release fee if a suitable offer comes in after the player expressed his concern at being left on the substitutes bench on Saturday.
Wojciech Szczesny put in another unconvincing display at the weekend and competition for the young Pole is vital, so Guaita could be a good addition – although my preference would be Stoke’s Asmir Begovic if we are to bring in a new keeper this summer.
