Wenger Could Splash £100m As Arsenal Open Talks With Madrid Over Double Swoop
Arsenal are in talks with Real Madrid over Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria with Arsene Wenger ready to spend up to £100m before the window shuts in 10 days.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsene Wenger gears up for a busy few days of spending.
Arsenal are in talks with Real Madrid over a double swoop for Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria with boss Arsene Wenger ready to spend up to £100m before the window shuts in 10 days time, according to the BBC.
It’s been a frustrating few months to be an Arsenal fan with us missing out on a number of targets so far this summer but BBC journalist David Ornstein has claimed that could all be about to change with the club understood to be in talks with Real Madrid for attacking duo Benzema and Di Maria.
The report suggests we’re prepared to pay £40m for the French hitman with Arsene Wenger keen to sign a world class striker after missing out Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, while he’s also enquiring over the availability of 25-year-old winger Di Maria who could cost £25m.
It’s not known whether Madrid are prepared to sell, but the Telegraph reported this morning that the Spanish club are open to the idea as they need to raise further funds to secure the signing of Gareth Bale while Benzema could be keen on a move if Carlo Ancelotti plays Cristiano Ronaldo through the middle when the Welshman finally arrives.
After last nights 3-0 win over Fenerbache, Wenger confirmed he is now ready to make his moves in the transfer market, insisting a lot will happen over the next 10 days:
“The transfer market really starts now, a lot of activity will happen between now and 2 September. We have 12 days. A lot will happen. It starts now.” Wenger is quoted as saying by the BBC
So far we’ve only signed Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer but the BBC claim Wenger could now spend up to £100m on new additions before the window closes with a goalkeeper, defender and midfielder also in his thoughts.
If we do manage to bring in a world class striker such as Benzema as well as strengthen the rest of the squad, it could end up being a very successful summer of transfer business for the Gunners. The only question will be why Wenger left it so late to make his moves.
Many suggest he wanted to secure passage to the lucrative group stages of the Champions League first, which could be right, but Arsenal are reported to have millions in the bank available to spend already. Perhaps we needed the guarantee of Champions League football to attract the players we want?
Who knows, but it looks like it could be an exciting few days to be an Arsenal fan. Personally, I’d love to see Begovic, Sakho, Kondogbia, Di Maria and Benzema all arrive. That too much to ask?
