Transfer News: Arsenal In Talks With Ivorian | Liverpool Striker Bid Talk Denied
Transfer news. Today, Arsenal are in talks to sign former Chelsea winger Saloman Kalou while Internacional deny Liverpool have made a bid for Leandro Damiao.
As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are in talks to sign former Chelsea winger Saloman Kalou while Internacional deny Liverpool have made a bid for Leandro Damiao.
Arsenal in Kalou talks
First up and the Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal have held talks over the £2.6m signing of former Chelsea attacker Saloman Kalou.
The Ivorian joined Lille last summer but has struggled to settle and is now set to move on again this summer and the report claims he’s already failed to agree terms with the likes of Liverpool, WBA and Cardiff after demanding £60,000-a-week in wages.
However, it seems Arsenal could be ready to offer him a return to the Premier League with the Mail suggesting the Gunners have held talks over a potential £2.6m move, but are stalling on the deal as they would prefer to try and sign a marquee name first.
It’s been a frustrating summer for Arsenal fans with no marquee names coming through the doors at the Emirates and I’m not sure signing 28-year-old Kalou is going to placate anger Gooners – who are demanding boss Arsene Wenger splashes out on some big-names players this summer.
No Liverpool bid for Damiao
Next up and the Metro carry quotes from Internacional president Giovanni Luigi who is claiming that Liverpool have not tabled a bid for striker Leandro Damiao.
The 24-year-old is one of the most sought-after strikers in Brazil and has scored 83 goals in 149 games for Internacional over the past three years.
Recent reports have suggested that the Reds had made a move for the Brazilian international – who has previously been linked with the likes of Tottenham and Zenit St Petersburg.
However, Internacional president Giovanni Luigi has dismissed these reports, insisting he has no contact from the Merseysiders about Damiao’s availability and questioned whether they’d even be able to afford him.
‘There is nothing, Liverpool never made any offer, and I have never received a phone call from them.
‘I don’t even know if they could afford to sign Leandro Damiao.
‘The Zenit [St Petersburg] story was strong some time ago, but later they never talked about Leandro Damiao. Tottenham talked with me on January 30 and 31, then never again.’ Luigi is quoted as saying in the Metro.
So there’s another dose of transfer news. Not long left now for managers to do there business and it’s gearing up to be an exciting few days.
