According to goal.com, Karim Benzema is Redknapp’s new transfer target and a deal seems possible given that the Frenchman’s situation at Bernabeu is a little complicated.

Spurs need an in-form world class striker to aid the team’s challenge to finish again in the top four and are keeping a close eye on Benzema’s situation, as recent reports in Spain indicate that the ex-Lyon striker has an icy relationship with “The Special One”.

Redknapp’s efforts to buy a big name during the summer were in vain, as Spurs repeatedly failed to sign Huntelaar, Diego Forlan or Luis Fabiano.

Spurs could use Rafael Van der Vaart’s words in order to convince Benzema that White Hart Lane is suited for him, as the Dutch player enjoyed a great start at the club.

Redknapp has up to £25m to spend on a goal scorer, but could face a fierce competition from European giants like Manchester United and Juventus.

Spurs and Real Madrid seem to have a good relationship as Spurs made a bargain in the summer buying Van der Vaart for £8m. Yet, no contact has been made regarding Benzema. It would be interesting to see Mourinho’s reaction, as he could push for Gareth Bale to come to Bernabeu, in a part-exchange deal.

One issue would be that Spurs already have in their ranks the likes of Jermain Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Crouch and Robbie Keane and if Benzema joins the team, or any other high-profile striker in that matter, one current striker will have to go.  The question is who?

Dear readers, have your say? Do you want Benzema at White Hart Lane? If you do, who should leave?

Defoe and Crouch = must stay

the rest can go one-by-one and get replaced

Robbie – is a good player but the whole Liverpool saga has lost him credit with spurs fans, his confidence still seems shot and he slows the ball down too much. Benzema better. Sell him as a make wight.

Pav – big man as backup for Crouch is decent but we could get better. Sell him and get Huntelaar

our squad is pretty class when the likes of Palacios, Kranjcar, Ohara (think he is back from injury now) Giovani, Sandro cannot make the first team. COYS

It will be almost impossible for Spurs to buy Huntelaar now due to the fact that he’s just signed for Schalke and has had a great start of the season.

Surely, Schalke are not willing to sell him now.

Spurs had a great chance in the summer but failed to sign him. Too bad, as the Dutch could have been great for Spurs.

I think he’d be a good signing but im sure he’l have alot of offers from arnd europe. To go, Pav, tho i like him he’l be bhind whatever top striker we buy and Defoe and big Peter im sure will make 1st team b4 Pav. Keane and Pav will not want 2 sit arnd on the bench much longer.

Id get rid off Pav and Keane. I just dont think they can cut it anymore! I’d rather Dzeko than Benzema but im not complaining. We really need someone who can comfortably play the lone striker role, so that Van Der Vaart can play the provider in the hole without losing Hudd or Modric in the midfield! COYS!

If we’re trading Bale for Benzema then it’s a big NO for me. I rather keep Bale. But for £25mil, i’d say maybe, still £20mil is more reasonable as he isn’t PL tested.
