Player Ratings
Szczesny 6.5/10
Had very little to do in terms of shot stopping other than a few routine catches from distance. His commanding of the box was very good though.
Sagna 7/10
Was less adventurous to go forward than we’re used to seeing but he was solid at the back and kept Insigne quiet.
Mertesacker 7.5/10
Another very good display by the German. He’s so calm at the back and marshalled the back-line alongside Koscielny.
Koscielny 7.5/10
Didn’t give Pandev and Callejon a sniff all night and formed a rock solid partnership at the back. Was unlucky not to get on the score-sheet when Reina denied him close range in the second half.
Gibbs 7.5/10
Continued his fine form with another excellent display. Supported the attacks as we battered them in the first half and kept things tight as we saw out the game in the second.
Flamini 7.5/10
His defensive instincts were vital to snuff out the visitors attacks. Did a good job of keeping the dangerous Hamsik quiet.
Arteta 7/10
Back in the side and formed a solid midfield base alongside Flamini. They did the dirty work and let the more creative players do the business. Could be the way forward in Europe.
Ramsey 8/10
Continued his impressive form with another all-action display. His link-up play with Ozil and Giroud in the first half was superb, and got things going with an excellent assist for the opener.
Rosicky 6/10
Wasn’t at his best but that’s to be expected after a month out. He gave away possession on a number of occasions but he’ll be back up to speed in no time.
Ozil 9/10
This is what £42m gets you. World Class. He was sensational in the opening 45 minutes and completely ran the show. His goal was a sublime finish – he just made it look so easy – and he chipped in with another assist.
Giroud 8.5/10
His hold-up play was central to our attacking play and he played a huge part in the opener before sealing the game with a neat close range finish. Looks far more confident this season and is clearly going to enjoy playing alongside a certain German playmaker.
Subs
Wilshere 7/10 – Lively when he came on and looked to have gained a little burst of speed.
Monreal – N/A – On too late.
A vital three points in the bag and we’re half way to securing qualification from an extremely difficult group. Dortmund next and that’s going to be the big test but if we play like we did on Tuesday night, I’m confident we’ll beat last years finalists.
