Arsenal played out a hard fought 1-1 draw with West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon and while our long winning run away from home has ended, the point is enough to see us move back to the top of the league.
We didn’t play at our best but still came away with something from the game and that’s vital when things aren’t clicking like they have done in previous games. Here are my ratings from the game:
Szczesny 7/10
Another good performance from the Pole. He made an excellent save in the first half and could do little about the goal.
Jenkinson 6/10
In for Sagna but he struggled slightly. His passing and crossing was poor and he left Yacob free in the box to head home the opener.
Mertesacker 7/10
Steady display from the big German. He did his best to cover for Jenks when the youngster wandered out of position and he made some important tackles.
Koscielny 7/10
Made some vital interceptions throughout the game. Only error was playing Anekla onside but got away with it as the Frenchman curled his shot wide.
Gibbs 7/10
Not involved in the final third that much but steady at the back. Wasted a good opportunity to test the keeper when he blazed over.
Flamini 7/10
Another tenacious display and he ran his heart out. Picked up his usual booking that affected his game in the second half.
Arteta 6/10
Looked a little ‘leggy’ and failed to take control of the midfield. Maybe he’s feeling the effects of playing three games in a week since returning to action from injury.
Wilshere 6.5/10
Awful first half. Possibly the worst he’s played in an Arsenal shirt but Wenger stuck by him and was repaid with a goal and a much improved second half display. Played a superb through-ball for Giroud that could have led to a winner.
Ozil 7/10
Didn’t replicate his form from Tuesday but was still the creative hub and he makes the game look so easy.
Ramsey 6/10
Went closest to scoring in the first half when he forced a good save from a long-range but was a little below par before being taken off with a knee problem.
Giroud 6/10
Not his best performance of the season. He wasted a couple of good chances to get on the score-sheet, including a late chance after being put through by Wilshere.
Subs:
Rosicky 6.5/10 – Added some energy to our attacks after replacing Ramsey.
Bendtner – N/A
It’s a two week international break now and hopefully we’ll have Santi Cazorla and maybe Theo Walcott back by the time Norwich come to the Emirates on the 19th.
