North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head-to-had over the signing of a French midfielder, who could leave PSG in search of regular action
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal and Spurs are on course to fight it out for the signature of a French starlet.
North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to go head-to-had over the signing of French midfield starlet Adrien Rabiot, who could look to leave PSG in search of first team football, according to the Daily Star.
The 18-year-old has emerged as a real talent since breaking into the Paris Saint German squad in 2012 and has impressed during his 11 appearances so far this season.
It seems his potential has alerted both Arsene Wenger and Andre Villas-Boas with the Star claiming that Arsenal and Spurs are showing serious signs of interest in trying to lure him away from the Parc des Princes.
Rabiot has recently broken into the France Under-21 squad and has 2 caps to his name so far, but he’s hinted he may be forced to seek a move away from PSG in order to put him in the frame for the senior set-up if he can’t secure regular first team football with with the Ligue 1 champions.
“I think if you can play in this PSG team you can play in the French senior national team,”
“In the current situation, it is a bit early. I have two caps with the Under-21’s, one should not rush, but I do not think I’m very, very far away.
“However, there is still work to do. There are many players in front of me.
“In football, things can change very quickly. It’s hard to say that I will stay four or five years in this club.
“If my future is elsewhere because of players in front of me, then it must be so.” Rabiot is quoted as saying by the Star
The newspaper suggests Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been monitoring Rabiot’s progress for several months and was hoping his experience and contacts in France could smooth the way for a move to the Emirates.
However, the Premier League leaders look like they will face stiff competition from Tottenham with the report stating that AVB is plotting a January bid to try and gazump their north London rivals with the promise of regular first team action.
Whether the midfielder will be persuaded to leave France for England remains to be seen but it appears he will have options in the Premier League if he decides he wants a new challenge any time soon.
