Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has named a 21-man squad that will travel to Basel on Monday afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash.
The Blues currently top Group E by 3 points from second-placed Schalke following a 3-0 win over the Germans a fortnight ago and can seal qualification to the knockout stages with a win on Tuesday.
The good news is that striker Fernando Torres is on the plane after returning to training following an adductor muscle injury that’s kept him out for three weeks. Torres could now come straight back in for Samuel Eto’o up front.
However, Mourinho has been dealt a blow with defender David Luiz missing the trip after picking up a bruised patella. The Brazilian is set to be on the sidelines for around a week and joins long-term injury victim Marco van Ginkel in missing the Basel clash.
Here is the 21-man squad Mourinho is taking with him to Switzerland, according to Chelseafc.com:
Goalkeepers:
Cech, Schwarzer, Blackman
Defenders
Ivanovic, Cole, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Bertrand
Midfielders
Ramires, Lampard, Mata, Oscar, Mikel, Schurrle, De Bruyne, Hazard, Willian
Strikers
Torres, Ba, Eto’o
The Chelsea squad was put through their paces at the Cobham training ground on Monday morning before setting off for Basel but won’t be training on at the St Jakob-Park Stadium ahead of the match tomorrow.
