Liverpool Blow As Salah Heads For Chelsea Medical After Blues Confirm Deal
Mohamed Salah will fly into London to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with Chelsea after the Blues hijacked Liverpool’s move for the Basel ace.
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Mohamed Salah.
Chelsea appear to have successfully hijacked Liverpool’s move for Mohamed Salah with the Blues confirming on Chelseafc.com that they’ve reached an agreement with Basel to sign the midfielder.
Salah has filled the back pages this week and was reportedly off to Liverpool after the Reds came to an agreement with Basel for his signature following weeks of speculation.
However, the deal was plunged into doubt late on Wednesday when reports emerged that Chelsea had made a late move to hijack Liverpool’s deal with Jose Mourinho looking to bring the Egyptian attacker in as a replacement for the Manchester United-bound Juan Mata.
It now seems the west Londoners have pulled it off with the club confirming on their official website that a deal has been reached with Basel and the 21-year-old will move to Stamford Bridge subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.
A statement on Chelseafc.com read:
Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with FC Basel for the transfer of their 21-year-old attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah.
The move is subject to the Egyptian international agreeing personal terms and completing a medical examination.
Chelsea haven’t released details of the fee but the Telegraph claim it’s in the region of £12m and the player will now fly into London to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms on Friday.
Barring any last minute hiccups, Salah will become Chelsea’s second big-money signing this month following the purchase of Nemanja Matic from Benfica.
This will come as a bitter blow to Liverpool and boss Brendan Rodgers as Salah could have been the player that helped the Merseysiders clinch a top-four finish this season.
Salah was hugely impressive against Chelsea in the Champions League this season, scoring in both home and away ties, and he’s got a superb goal-scoring record for his country, netting 17 goals in 27 games, so it certainly looks like the Blues have got their hands on another exciting young talent at the expense of Liverpool.
