Man Utd Step Up Interest In £30m Portuguese International
Man Utd boss David Moyes has stepped up his interest in a Portuguese midfielder after sending scouts to watch the £30million-rated player in action this weekend
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd step up their interest in William Carvalho.
Manchester United boss David Moyes has stepped up his interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho after sending scouts to watch the player in action for the 12th time this season, according to talkSPORT.
Carvalho has been a hugely impressive figure at the heart of Sporting’s midfield this season and his form has attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.
United have been strongly linked with the 21-year-old in recent months with reports last week suggesting Moyes’s scouts were in the stands to watch the powerful box-to-box midfielder in action against Academica.
talkSPORT are now claiming that the Scot sent his spies to run-the-rule over Carvalho once again this past weekend – the 12th time he has had him watched already this weekend – with the player impressing during a 1-0 win over Olhanense.
The report suggests that United are now giving serious consideration to making a formal offer at the end of the season but they will have to dig deep as Sporting will demand in excess of £30m for his signature.
Central midfield is an area that Moyes is likely to strengthen this summer with Tom Cleverley failing to progress, Michael Carrick approaching his 33rd birthday and Marouane Fellaini struggling for both form and fitness this season following his move from Everton.
Carvalho would be an exciting addition and he should have no trouble adapting to the physical nature of the Premier League if he does end up making the move here, but it remains to be seen whether the champions will be willing to pay around £30m for a player with little experience outside of Portugal.
However, Moyes is certainly doing his homework on the midfielder so the interest it there, it may just come down to whether a deal can be done between the two clubs as a move to Old Trafford is likely to appeal to the youngster.
