Moyes Lines-Up Triple Swoop As Part Of £200m Summer Overhaul
Manchester United boss David Moyes is eyeing a triple swoop for William Carvalho, Toni Kroos and Carlos Mane as part of a dramatic £200m overhaul this summer
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd eye summer splurge.
Manchester United boss David Moyes is eyeing a triple swoop for William Carvalho, Toni Kroos and Carlos Mane as part of a dramatic £200m overhaul this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
United have endured a disastrous season so far with the defending champions currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table, were dumped out of both domestic cup competitions, and need to overcome a 2-0 first leg defeat to Olympiakos to progress in the Champions League.
It’s certainly been a baptism of fire for beleaguered boss David Moyes and the Daily Mail claim he’ll be handed up to £200m to spend this summer with a complete overhaul of the squad planned to get the club back challenging for top honours again.
It looks like Moyes is keen to add to his midfield and attacking options as the newspaper suggests that he’s planning a double raid on Sporting Lisbon for highly-rated youngsters Carlos Mane and William Carvalho.
19-year-old Mane is a pacey winger who’s been likened to the great Cristiano Ronaldo and is likely to cost in the region of £20m, while central midfielder Carvalho is also expected to cost at least that much with United scouts watching the 21-year-old on several occasions this year.
Key to United’s summer business will also be trying to lure Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos to England, and with the midfielder yet to sign a new contract at the Allianz Arena, the Red Devils are prepared to pay him a huge £250,000-a-week plus pay a £40m transfer fee to the Bundesliga champions.
However, despite the tempting pay packet, the problem could be persuading the German international to move to Old Trafford as Champions League football is unlikely to be on offer for at least 12 months, and the Mail claim Kroos may therefore snub United’s advances to stay with Bayern for another season.
It’s certainly gearing up to be an interesting summer for United, particularly if they do end up missing out on a top-four finish. It appears Moyes is planning to add to his midfield and attacking options, but he’ll also have to rebuild his defence with Patrice Evra possibly following Nemanja Vidic out the exit door at the end of the season.
It will be a brave decision from the United board to back Moyes with up to £200m after the first season the Scot’s had at Old Trafford, with many fans already having lost faith in the former Everton man, but they could soon be turned around if he manages to attract player such as Kroos this summer.
