Tottenham Totspur are facing a mounting injury crisis ahead of this weekends crucial clash with Chelsea after Kyle Walker and Zeki Fryers were the latest players to be ruled out.

Right-back Walker has been nursing a hip problem in recent weeks and hasn’t played since Tottenham’s resounding win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park last month.

Roy Hodgson had called the 23-year-old up to his England squad last week in the hope that he’d feature against Cardiff on Sunday and be available for tonight’s clash with Denmark.

However, Spurs boss Tim Sherwood confirmed after the game at White Hart Lane that Walker wouldn’t be fit enough to be involved this week so Hodgson had no option but to release him from his squad. Speaking on Tuesday, the Three Lions boss claimed that Walker is still a week away from being fit making him a serious doubt to face Chelsea on Saturday.

Hodgson said:

“As you know Kyle hasn’t played for the last two or three games for Tottenham but we were rather hoping that when I selected the squad he would recover and play for Tottenham at the weekend and be fit to play for us.

“Unfortunately it is another week before he will be fit to play so we have to let him go.” Hodgson is quoted as saying by the IBM Times.

Sherwood is also sweating over the fitness of fellow full-back Zeki Fryers after the youngster was forced to pull out of the England Under-21 squad for tonight’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales through injury.

It’s not clear how serious the injury is but if the 21-year-old joins Walker in being ruled out of the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, it will leave Spurs short of options at the back.

Danny Rose has also missed the last three games through injury so Sherwood could be left with just one fit full-back in Kyle Naughton against Chelsea. Jan Vertonghen could move out to the left, but with Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches also missing, the Belgian international is required in the centre of defence, leaving Sherwood with a potential headache.

As well as Walker, Fryers, Rose, Chiriches and Kaboul, the north Londoners injury list also includes midfielders Etienne Capoue and Erik Lamela, so they certainly have some injury worries to contend with as they prepare for a pivotal run of fixtures that includes games against Chelsea, Benfica, Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool.
