Belgian Boss Gives Update On Hazard’s Ankle Injury, Winger A Doubt For Spurs Clash

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is a doubt for this weekend’s vital Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur after picking up an ankle injury on Wednesday night.

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is a doubt for this weekend’s vital clash with Tottenham Hotspur after picking up an ankle knock on Wednesday night.

Hazard came off the bench for Belgium in the 62nd minute and almost immediately took a nasty kick to his ankle from Newcastle United midfielder Cheike Tiote.

The Blues attacker received treatment from the medical staff and was able to continue, although it was clear from his performance he was still feeling the effects of the injury as he had little effect on the game as the Ivory Coast came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots told reporters after the game that Hazard’s stocking was broken and the ankle was swollen:

“Eden was knocked with virtually his first touch immediately after coming on… His stocking was broken and his ankle was swollen. Such things happen in top-level football.” Wilmots is quoted as saying by HLN.be

The injury is sure to leave Hazard as a doubt for Chelsea’s vital game with Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, although there are quotes from the 23-year-old circulating on Twitter that claim he said “It did hurt, but I think I can play this weekend.”, but we’ve been unable to verify if this quote is accurate or not.

The Blues head into this weekends fixtures four points clear of second placed Arsenal and Liverpool, and with neither of their nearest rivals playing a league match this weekend, the west Londoners can open up a sizeable gap with a win over Tottenham.

Therefore, Jose Mourinho will be eager for Hazard to return to Cobham to be assessed by Chelsea’s medical team to see if he’s going to be available for the game.
