Spurs Pre-Chelsea Team News: Sherwood Offers Update On Walker, Eriksen + More
Tottenham travel across London to take on Chelsea on Saturday evening at Stamford Bridge. Here’s the latest team and injury news from Spurs boss Tim Sherwood.
Tottenham travel across London to take on Chelsea on Saturday evening for this weekends big Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.
Ahead of the game, boss Tim Sherwood has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference on Friday and he gave TottenhamHotspur.com a team news and injury update.
The good news is that defenders Kyle Walker and Younes Kaboul are both ‘in contention’ to face Chelsea. Walker had been a doubt after pulling out of England’s midweek friendly against Denmark with an ongoing hip problem that’s kept him out of Tottenham’s last four games. But it appears he’s now overcome the injury with Sherwood confirming the right-back could play this weekend.
Walker could be joined by French centre-back Kaboul, who is also available having recovered from a niggling calf problem that he picked up against Newcastle United last month.
However, attacker Christian Eriksen is a doubt for the game after failing to overcome a back injury that saw him forced off against Cardiff City last weekend and subsequently miss Denmark’s loss to England on Wednesday.
There was also a positive update on Danny Rose with Sherwood revealing that the left-back should return to training soon after edging his way back to full fitness from a knee injury, but the Chelsea game will come too soon for him.
Spurs will continue to be without long-term injury victims Etienne Capoue (ankle), Vlad Chiriches (back) and Erik Lamela (back). Here’s what Sherwood told the clubs official website and Twitter account:
“Christian is doubtful, he’s still not shaken off the back injury. It’s a minor injury but still irritating him and this game might come too early.”
“We’ve had good news on Danny so we’re hoping he’ll be on the mend soon, we’ll get him back out training soon and then assess him. Erik and Vlad remain longer-term injuries alongside Etienne.”

Tottenham head to the Bridge on Saturday evening sitting fifth in the Premier League table and with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all not playing a league match this weekend, Spurs will be hoping to close the gap on the top four with a positive result.
