Transfer News: Liverpool Eye £20m Swoop | Man Utd Linked With Spanish Defender
Latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are linked with a £20m move for Dani Parejo while Manchester United are eyeing up Valencia defender Juan Bernat.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Liverpool are linked with a £20m move for Dani Parejo while Man Utd are eyeing up Valencia defender Juan Bernat.
Liverpool linked with £20m Parejo move
First up and the Mirror are reporting that Liverpool are lining-up a £20million move for Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo.
The Spanish under-21 ace has become a key member of Juan Antonio Pizzi’s side this season and it appears he’s caught the eye of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
The Mirror claims that the Northern Irishman is already preparing for life in the Champions League next season by drawing up a list of summer transfer targets who can help establish the club as a competitive force in Europe’s elite competition once again.
The newspaper suggests that Parejo is being lined-up as a potential new addition but the 24-year-old will set the Merseysiders back a fee in the region of £20m, and it remains to be seen whether Rodgers will be prepared to pay that kind of money for the former Real Madrid youngster.
Liverpool have enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League – currently sitting second in the table – so they are well on course to qualifying for the Champions League, and it looks like Rodgers is ready to strengthen his squad this summer with midfield an area of concern.
Some may remember Parejo from his failed stint at Queens Park Rangers in 2008 but he’s really developed his game over the last couple of years and is now looking like he’s finally fulfilling the potential he showed while he was at Madrid as a youngster.
His form could be set to earn him a big-money move to the Premier League but it sounds like Liverpool will have to dig deep if they want lure him to Anfield.
Moyes eyes Bernat
Next up and the Daily Mail are claiming that Manchester United also have their eye on a Valencia player, with David Moyes understood to have added Juan Bernat to his list of left-back targets.
The 21-year-old has been converted from a winger in to a left-back this season and it’s worked a treat with the youngster putting in some hugely impressive performances. So much so that he’s being tipped to push Barcelona’s Jordi Alba for the left-back spot in the Spanish national team in the near future.
The Mail suggest that United are drawing up an extensive list of potential full-back signings as they believe first choice option Luke Shaw is likely to join rivals Chelsea this summer, and Bernat has emerged as a serious target.
The defending champions had hoped to take advantage of Valencia’s financial worries, however, they will have to move quickly for Bernat as prospective new owner Peter Lim is in advanced talks to take over the club and if the sale goes through, the La Liga outfit will no longer be considered a ‘selling club’.
A new left-back looks certain to be on the agenda for boss David Moyes this summer with Patrice Evra looking likely to follow Nemanja Vidic out the exit door at the end of the season. Southampton’s teenage starlet Luke Shaw would certainly be an exciting signing but the competition for his signature is going to be intense and Bernat would make for a decent fall-back option.
