Chelsea Handed Injury Boost Ahead Of Galatasaray Clash
Chelsea have been handed a timely injury boost ahead of next weeks Champions League clash against Galatasaray. Find out who’s set to return to training here.
Chelsea have been handed a timely injury boost ahead of next weeks Champions League clash against Galatasaray with striker Fernando Torres set to return to training this week, according to the Daily Mail.
The Spaniard suffered a groin injury during the warm-up before last Saturday’s 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
It was initially feared that Torres may be sidelined for a number of weeks but the Mail claim he’s received intensive treatment on the injury and is now in line to return to full training before the end of this week.
There is little chance the 29-year-old will play any part of Chelsea’s Premier League fixture away to Aston Villa on Saturday evening, but if he comes through the training sessions unscathed, he’d then be available for Tuesday’s crucial Champions League second leg at home to Galatasaray.
The tie is finely poised following a 1-1 draw in Istanbul two weeks ago, where Torres opened the scoring in the 9th minute before the Blues were pegged back by a second half strike from Aurelien Chedjou.
Samuel Eto’o is on stand-by to fill in should Torres fail to make it, while Demba Ba also showed he’s still a threat after coming off the bench to score a late double against Spurs last weekend, but it will be a huge boost for Jose Mourinho if the former Liverpool hitman is passed fit for when the Turkish champions come to town.
