Chelsea take on Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday evening looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Boss Jose Mourinho has been speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning and has given Chelseafc.com a team news update including the latest on Ashley Cole, David Luiz and Fernando Torres.
Unfortunately, the Blues are going to be without both Luiz and Cole for the game tomorrow after the duo failed to recover from the injuries that kept them out of last weeks 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
However, there was some positive news on the fitness of Torres with Mourinho revealing that the striker has a chance to be back in the squad to face Villa this weekend. The Spaniard injured his groin during the warm up last week and it was initially feared he could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
But he’s made significant progress this week and Mourinho must now decide whether to risk taking him to Villa Park tomorrow or keep him back for Tuesday’s Champions League second leg against Galatasaray. He told the clubs website:
‘We will have no David and no Ashley,’
‘Maybe I’ll take him [Torres] tomorrow,’ he said. ‘Maybe I won’t take him and I’ll try everything for Tuesday, but maybe I’ll take him tomorrow. It depends on today’s training and conversations after the session. Yesterday he looked okay.
‘The dedication to the recovery was great by him and the physios. He’s tried everything to recover, it was only a little thing but when you feel that little thing before a game you don’t play. If you feel it during the game maybe the adrenaline takes you through, but when you feel it in the warm-up before the game you don’t risk it.
‘I have to decide, maybe tomorrow, maybe Tuesday.’
Chelsea head into the weekend action sitting seven points clear at the top of the table and with their nearest rivals both facing tough away games, the west Londoners have the opportunity to extend that advantage even further with a win over Villa.
