[Player Ratings] Spurs 0-1 Arsenal: Defence + Rosicky Win It For Sloppy Gunners

Arsenal ground out a 1-0 win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon despite not being at their best, here are Gooner Mac’s player ratings for Arsene Wenger’s men from the game:

Szczesny 7/10

The Pole didn’t have too much to do in terms of shot-stopping but he had to deal with a number of crosses and was largely solid, with the exception of one occasion when he spilled one only for Koscielny to save his blushes with a goal-line clearance.

Sagna 8/10

Kept Eriksen pretty quiet and stood firm against the home sides attack.

Gibbs 7/10

His passing was extremely poor at times and much of Tottenham’s attacking was down his side, but Gibbs was still part of a back four that kept a clean sheet under tough circumstances.

Mertesacker 9/10

Made countless blocks and interceptions and won a lot of vital headers from the constant flow of Tottenham crosses. Superb.

Koscielny 9/10

Put his body in front of everything Spurs could throw at us. Probably just edged Per for MOTM.

Arteta 6/10

Couldn’t really get control of the midfield and was over-run at times, but worked hard to help out his defence.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 5/10

Looked up for it early on but fluffed his big chance to make it 2-0 when he was clean through and it seemed to effect him, as he wasted another couple of chances to test the keeper.

Rosicky 8/10

What a goal. Smashed home what turned out to be the winner in the second minute. He didn’t offer much else in an attacking sense, but he worked hard as always.

Podolski 6/10

Got into some promising positions but final ball often let him down and missed a good chance to test Lloris when he fired wide.

Cazorla 6/10

Wasn’t really in the game. Failed to offer an attacking threat.

Giroud 5/10

Very disappointing from the Frenchman. Wasn’t the outlet Arsenal needed as he constantly lost out to Kaboul or Vertonghen.

Subs:

Monreal 6/10 – On for Podolski to protect Gibbs for the final 20 minutes.

Flamini 6/10 – On to offer an extra defensive body but picked up a booking for a reckless foul.

Vermaelen N/A – Only on for a matter of minutes.
