The draw for the semi finals of the Champions League took place on Friday morning and Chelsea will take on Atletico Madrid while Bayern Munich were paired against Real Madrid in the other half of the draw.
Chelsea reached the last four after a dramatic victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, when Demba Ba scored a late strike to see the Blues through on away goals after the tie had ended 3-3 on aggregate.
Jose Mourinho’s men will now have to get past Atletico Madrid after Diego Simone’s side edged out Barcelona 2-1 in the previous round, with the first leg to be played at the Vicente Calderon.
Real Madrid were given a real scare in the quarter finals. Carlo Ancelotti’s men looked to have all-but secured qualification with a comfortable 3-0 first leg win over Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabeu but a first half double from Marco Reus in the return leg put the tie back in the balance before Madrid held out to go through 3-2 on aggregate.
The Spanish giants will now play reigning champions Bayern Munich in the other semi final after the Germans knocked out Manchester United 4-2 on Wednesday night, with the first leg to be played at the Bernabeu.
