Transfer News: Late Hijack Bid Lined-Up As Attacker Nears £10m Move
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to make last-ditch bids to try and hijack Bayer Leverkusen’s move for Turkish attacker Hakan Calhanoglu, say so reports
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are linked with Hakan Calhanoglu.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are ready to make last-ditch bids to try and hijack Bayer Leverkusen’s move for Turkish attacker Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports.
The youngster has just come off the back of an excellent season in Germany where he scored 11 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburg, despite the club finishing in a disappointing 10th place in the table.
His impressive form led to interest from a whole host of European clubs with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool among the clubs understood to be keeping tabs on the 20-year-old in recent months.
Despite interest from the Premier League, Bayer Leverkusen appear to be on the verge of signing Calhanoglu with CEO Michael Schade recently quoted as saying they have submitted a written offer to Hamburg and the player has verbally agreed to make the move to the Bay Arena.
“Calhanoglu should be our chief transfer. HSV have been given our written offer.”
“We are clear with the player. He has verbally accepted our offer and only wants to come to us.
“He has clearly told Hamburg that.” Schade is quoted as saying by the Express.
However, despite Leverkusen’s confidence they have the Turkish youngsters signing in the bag, the Express claim that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool will submit last-ditch bids to try and derail the move.
The newspaper suggests that Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers all sent representatives to make checks on Calhanoglu last season and are now ready to formalise their interest in the £10-rated attacking midfielder.
Whether any of the trio will be able to prevent him joining Leverkusen at this late stage remains to be seen, but it would be something of a coup if one of the English giants were able to lure Calhanoglu to England.
The German-born midfielder is a supreme talent and although he’s pledged his allegiance to Turkey after making his senior debut last year, he’s still regarded as one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga and they wouldn’t want to see him move to a rival league.

He predominantly plays from the left wing but is capable of playing anywhere across the front three positions, and with his pace and eye for goal, Calhanoglu would certainly be a useful addition at Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool if they were able to pull off his signing.
