Neubauer Insists He’s Not Held Talks With Arsenal Or Chelsea
Sami Khedira’s agent, Jorg Neubauer, insists he has not held talks with Arsenal or Chelsea and no fee has been agreed with Real Madrid for the German midfielder
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, the latest on Sami Khedira.
Sami Khedira’s agent, Jorg Neubauer, insists he has not held talks with Arsenal or Chelsea and no fee has been agreed with Real Madrid for the German midfielder, according to the Telegraph.
Speculation in recent weeks has suggested that both Arsenal and Chelsea are chasing the 27-year-old this summer with reports in Spain earlier this week claiming that the Gunners were in talks with the midfielders representatives discussing personal terms after a €29m fee had supposedly been agreed with Madrid.
Further reports on Wednesday morning suggests that Jose Mourinho had contacted Khedira personally to try and persuade him to turn his back on a switch to the Emirates and link-up with him at Stamford Bridge.
However, all these reports appear to be wide of the mark as the players agent has now confirmed to the Telegraph that no talks have taken place with either club and no fee has been agreed with Madrid.
“We are not in talks with Arsenal,” said Neubauer.
“I don’t think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told.
“When a club have an interest I am sure they will call me and we will speak about things. The same goes for Chelsea.”
Khedira’s future has been thrown in doubt because he’s just entered the final year of his current deal at the Bernabeu and is yet to agree terms over an extension, leading to speculation he could be set for a move to the Premier League.
Some newspapers have claimed that with Madrid buying Toni Kroos, Carlo Ancelotti is ready to cash in on Khedira and has called off all negotiations over a contract renewal with the German international.
But Neubauer seems to suggest that talks with the European champions are ongoing and nothing has been decided as yet. He continued:
“We are talking to Real Madrid about his contract, but nothing is close to being decided,”
“Sami has just returned from the World Cup and has gone on holiday.”
So it looks as though Khedira’s future is anything but decided and he’s certainly not closing in on a switch to Arsenal, as some papers led us to believe earlier this week.
It looks like this saga is set to rumble on for some time yet and you get the feeling the midfielder is going to hold talks with Madrid once he’s back from holiday before any decision over his future is made, which means Arsenal and Chelsea are in for a frustrating wait.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta while Jose Mourinho needs another option in midfield after the exits of Frank Lampard and David Luiz, and both managers appear to have identified Khedira as a key target.
However, any potential move doesn’t look like it’s close at present so we’re going to have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days and weeks.
