Arsenal Make £8m Offer For Brazilian Attacker Previously Linked With Chelsea
Some interesting news doing the rounds on Thursday afternoon with reports suggesting Arsenal have tabled a formal £8m bid for Hoffenheim attacker Firmino.
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal make a bid for Chelsea target Firmino.
Some interesting news doing the rounds on Thursday with reports suggesting Arsenal have tabled a formal £8m bid for Hoffenheim attacker Firmino, who has previously been linked with Chelsea.
The Brazilian attacker has just come off the back of a superb season in Germany where he scored 16 goals and assisted 11 more, and that was despite playing in a side that finished in mid-table in the Bundesliga.
This impressive form saw him linked with a move to Chelsea earlier this year and Liverpool were also credited with interest at one point, while Inter Milan are also believed to have tried to take the 22-year-old on loan.
However, it seems Hoffenheim are only interested in selling their star man and the Express claim that Arsenal have now been in touch with the German club and tabled a formal £8m offer.
It’s not known what Hoffenheim’s asking price is, but with Firmino signing a new three-year deal recently, the newspaper suggests that the Gunners bid falls well short and is likely to be immediately rejected.
If that turns out to be the case, we’ll have to see if Arsene Wenger is prepared to return with an improved offer, but the Frenchman’s interest suggests he’s still hoping to add to his attack this summer.
Firmino can play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions and on the wing, but he’s also capable of playing up front, so he’d provide Arsenal with plenty of options if the north Londoners did manage to lure him to the Emirates this summer.

It remains to be seen how Chelsea react to Arsenal’s offer and whether Jose Mourinho will step up his interest, but that appears unlikely as the Blues are well stocked in the forward positions following the arrivals of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.
