Liverpool Hope To Wrap Up Attacker Deal Quickly After Making Formal €18m Bid
Liverpool hope to wrap up the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri after tabling a formal €18million bid for the Bayern Munich attacker, according to reports today.
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool make their move for Xherdan Shaqiri.
Liverpool hope to wrap up the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri quickly after tabling a formal €18m bid for the Bayern Munich attacker, according to reports today.
Shaqiri only joined Bayern in 2012 after he made a move from FC Basel but he’s struggled to establish himself at the Allianz Arena and made just 17 appearances last season, with many of those coming from the substitutes bench.
This lack of playing time has led to suggestions the 22-year-old is looking to leave this summer and reports suggest Bayern have given him permission to discuss a potential move with interested parties.
Liverpool have been linked with the Swiss winger on and off for nearly two years and speculation resurfaced earlier in the summer that they were interested in luring him to the Premier League.
It now looks like the Reds have made their move for the player with the Metro citing reports coming from Siwss outlet Blick that claim Liverpool are in pole position after making a formal €18m bid for his services.
It remains to be seen whether this offer – which works out at around £14.2m – will meet Bayern’s asking price, but the newspaper suggests it’s close to their valuation and the Merseysiders are keen to push through with a deal and get things wrapped up quickly.
Shaqiri is a huge talent and would no doubt prove to be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad if they were able to lure him to Anfield. The youngster is predominantly a right-winger but can play anywhere across the attacking positions so would give Rodgers plenty of options in the final third.

If he does make the move to Liverpool, Shaqiri will add to an impressive attack that already consists of new signings Adam Lallana and Lazard Markovic, as well as the likes of Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge, so Rodgers will hope his new-look attack will make up for the loss of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
