Arsenal & Man Utd Dealt Blow In Pursuit Of €35m Brazilian
Arsenal and Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Luiz Gustavo with the midfielder insisting he want to remain at Wolfsburg this summer.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Man Utd have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Luiz Gustavo.
Arsenal and Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Luiz Gustavo with the midfielder insisting he want to remain at Wolfsburg this summer, according to reports.
Gustavo has enjoyed a hugely impressive year since joining Wolfsburg from Bayern Munich in a £14m deal last summer and followed it up with some excellent displays for host nation Brazil at this summers World Cup finals.
His displays have attracted interest from the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester United among the clubs who’ve been strongly linked with a move for the 27-year-old in recent weeks.
Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for a defensive midfielder to replace Mikel Arteta in his Gunners midfield, while Louis van Gaal is also hoping to bring in another midfielder to play alongside Ander Herrera for United and both managers appear to have identified Gustavo as a potential target.
Wolfsburg have indicated they would like to keep hold of the Brazilian international but as he has a €35m (£27.5m) buy-out in his contract, they are vulnerable to losing him if a club is willing to match that figure.
However, is seems the German club can rest easy as despite the interest from the likes Arsenal and United, Gustavo insists he has no interest in moving on this summer.
“I am back in training and I want to play on for Wolfsburg to help the team succeed.
“We are to be involved in three club competitions this season and we want to be among the best in all of them.” Gustavo is quoted as saying by the Express.

So unless Gustavo has a change of heart over the coming weeks, it looks like Wenger and van Gaal will have to look elsewhere if they want to sign another midfielder before the end of the month.
