Arsenal + Chelsea Dealt Major Blow As Key Target Heads For Spain
It looks like Arsenal and Chelsea have missed out on the signing of Radamel Falcao with reports in Italy claiming the striker has joined giants Real Madrid.
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea miss out on Radamel Falcao.
It looks like Arsenal and Chelsea have missed out on the signing of Radamel Falcao with reports in Italy claiming the striker has joined Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is being tipped to make a late dash into the transfer market to bring in another striker after Olivier Giroud was ruled out for four months with a fractured tibia.
Reports on Thursday claimed that Wenger had identified Falcao as a key target with the Frenchman understood to have met with the strikers agent and representatives from Monaco to discuss a potential season long loan move to the Emirates.
Chelsea have also been strongly linked with Falcao this week with speculation suggesting Jose Mourinho has earmarked the Colombian international as a potential replacement for Fernando Torres, should the Spaniard complete his proposed move to AC Milan.
However, it looks like the London duo have missed out on the 28-year-old hitman as Italian outlet Calciomercato are reporting that Real Madrid reached an agreement with Monaco and Falcao’s representatives during a meeting after the Champions League draw in Monte Carlo on Thursday evening.
The report claims that Madrid will pay the Ligue 1 side in the region of €20m to take Falcao on a year-long loan with the option to make the move permanent for a set fee next summer.
If true, this will come as a huge blow to Arsenal and Chelsea as Falcao is no doubt one of the best strikers in Europe and would have been an excellent signing for either club had they been able to pull it off.

But it appears the draw of playing for the European champions has proven too difficult to resist, and the former Porto striker will now be heading to the Bernabeu to form a devastating strike-force alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
