Man Utd Battling Arsenal For €75m Colombian Striker
Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign €75m-rated Monaco and Colombia striker Radamel Falcao, according to reports.
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Manchester United have joined Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for Falcao.
Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign €75m-rated Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, according to reports.
The Colombian hitman is expected to be on the move today after being made available for transfer by Monaco, with the Ligue 1 outfit keen to get the strikers high wages off the books as part of cost-cutting measures put in place by club owners.
Real Madrid were the early front-runners but a proposed season-long loan move to the Bernabeu collapsed at the last minute and this has opened the door to a potential switch to the Premier League.
The Telegraph claims that Manchester United have now joined Arsenal and Manchester City in the race for the 28-year-old but the trio will either have to pay a €25m (£20m) loan fee or €75m (£60m) to sign the striker on a permanent basis.
Arsenal are in the market for another front-man after seeing Olivier Giroud ruled out for four months with a broken tibia and fans made their feelings perfectly clear to boss Arsene Wenger during the Gunners 1-1 draw at Leicester City on Sunday, signing ‘sign a f*cking striker’ in the Frenchman’s direction at the final whistle, and a player of Falcao’s stature would certainly appease the Emirates faithful.
Manuel Pellegrini appears to be keen on the South American too but a deal could be difficult due to Financial Fair Play, but the Premier League champions could offload the likes of Alvaro Negredo, Micah Richards and Matija Nastasic to raise the required funds.
However, the Telegraph suggest that United have now emerged as surprise suitors for Falcao’s signature with Louis van Gaal seemingly keen to continue his record summer spending in the transfer market. Speculation is linking Javier Hernandez with a loan move to Real Madrid while Danny Welbeck is also being tipped to leave Old Trafford, so it looks like van Gaal could need to bring in another striker with Falcao now on his radar.
