Manchester United have beaten Arsenal and Manchester City to the signing of Radamel Falcao with the Colombian moving to Old Trafford on an initial season long loan deal, according to various reports today.
As we brought you earlier, the Premier League trio were battling for the 28-year-old’s signature after Monaco sounded out potential suitors about either a loan move or a permanent deal after a proposed switch to Real Madrid fell through over the weekend.
Man City appeared to be the early front-runners with the Premier League champions ready to offload Alvaro Negredo to Valencia in order to make room for the Colombian international.
However, the Telegraph are one of several media outlets who are now reporting that United have won the race with after agreeing a season-long loan deal with Monaco this morning.
The former champions are understood to be paying a loan fee of around £12m while the strikers wages will set them back the best part of £8m, making the entire deal worth around £20m for one season.
It’s a huge investment by United but Louis van Gaal has been decided to bring Falcao in with Javier Hernandez set for a loan move to Real Madrid while Danny Welbeck could also be on the move on deadline day.
There are also reports that Robin van Persie could be set for a spell on the sidelines through injury, so the addition of Falcao will certainly fill the void left if the Dutchman is ruled out for any length of time.
The Telegraph state that Falcao is now expected to fly in to Manchester via a private jet this afternoon to undergo a medical, with the player due to arrive at around 5pm, and it could be a nervy time as the striker has only just recovered from a cruciate ligament injury that he sustained back in January.
