Arsenal new-boy Danny Welbeck proved to be England’s hero as the former Manchester United striker scored both goals during a 2-0 win away at Switzerland on Monday night.
England took a deserved lead just after the break when Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling set up Welbeck to tuck home at the far post for 1-0. The visitors then broke in the final minute with Welbeck on hand to cooly slot home his second of the game to wrap up the three points.
It was the perfect start to England’s Euro 2016 qualifying campaign as they beat their main rivals away from home, so Roy Hodgson’s men have given themselves an excellent foundation to build upon.
