Man Utd Injury News: Positive Update On Shaw + Rojo But Reds Sweat On Jones
Here’s an injury update ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Queens Park Rangers including the latest on defenders Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones.
The international break is almost over and our thoughts will soon return to Premier League action as Manchester United take on Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, we’ve got an injury and team news update and it looks like summer signings Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are in-line to make their competitive debuts, but the club are sweating on the fitness of Phil Jones.
The defender was forced off during the latter stages of England’s 2-0 win over Switzerland on Monday night with a suspected hamstring injury and is now almost certain to miss the visit of QPR this weekend.
The 22-year-old will fly back to Manchester for further tests today to discover the full extent of the injury, but his likely absence on Sunday will open the door for Marcos Rojo to make his first appearance for the club.
The Argentinean is yet to pull on the red jersey following his big-money move from Sporting Lisbon as he’s been made to wait for his work visa. However, he was finally granted one in Madrid last week and should be drafted straight into the starting eleven this weekend.
Reports also indicate that boss Louis van Gaal will hand a competitive debut to Luke Shaw after the youngster overcame a hamstring injury that’s kept him out for over a month.
The 19-year-old was also instructed to improve his fitness by van Gaal following his switch from Southampton earlier in the summer, and Shaw is expected to start in the left wing-back role against QPR on Sunday as United continue with their new 3-5-2 formation.
It will come as a welcome boost to van Gaal to be able to call upon Shaw and Rojo as he’s had few options at the back over this past month due to a long line of injury concerns. With Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao also added to the squad recently, United should have a whole new look this weekend and fans will be eager to see how the Dutch boss lines-up his expensively assembled team.
