Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of both Ander Herrera and James Wilson after the pair both picked up knocks, according to the Guardian.
Herrera was forced off late on during United’s 2-1 win over West Ham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon after suffering a back injury.
The 25-year-old was initially optimistic that the issue was nothing serious after he posted a message on his Facebook page after the games saying “Three very important points! I hope my back is fine soon. Thanks for your messages!”.
The Guardian claim that United had planned to release a statement on Monday evening with an update on the Spaniard’s condition. However, the former champions were forced to postpone the article as fears grew that the injury is worse than first thought.
United medical staff now want more time to assess Herrera’s condition before giving any official diagnosis but Louis van Gaal will be praying it’s nothing serious as another injury is the last thing he needs.
The Dutchman already has a lengthy injury list and to lose a key midfielder like Herrera when the likes of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini are already unavailable would be a major blow.
To make matters even worse, it’s also being reported by the Guardian that young striker James Wilson hobbled off at half time during last night’s 2-1 win over Tottenham under-21’s after picking up a knock.
The 18-year-old was set to be given his chance in the senior squad for this weekend’s clash with Everton due to Wayne Rooney’s suspension, so it will be a real blow to both the player and the club if he’s ruled out for any period of time.
