Arsenal & Chelsea Handed Boost In Pursuit Of €47m-Rated Midfielder
Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of William Carvalho with the midfielder admitting he wants to try his luck in England
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea are booted in their pursuit of William Carvalho.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of William Carvalho with the midfielder admitting he wants to try his luck in England, according to reports.
Carvalho was one of the most talked about players during the summer transfer window with clubs all over Europe linked with a move for the powerful defensive midfielder after his impressive form for Sporting last year.
At one stage Arsenal were thought to be leading the chase as reports claimed the Gunners had seen a £20m offer rejected in early August, but no deal could be agreed as Sporting were understood to be holding out for the full value of the players €47m (£37m) release clause.
Arsene Wenger has retained his interest and Chelsea are also understood to be tracking the talented 22-year-old ahead of a potential swoop either in January or next summer, and now the duo have been boosted by the players recent comments.
Speaking to reporters this week, Carvalho admitted that he is ambitious and wants to try his luck in the Premier League or Spain’s La Liga and will continue to work hard to achieve his goal.
“We all have ambitions and I hope one day to play in the best leagues in the world, the English or Spanish,”
“It was not this year, but if I continue to do my job as I have done so, it will certainly come sooner or later.” Carvalho is quoted as saying by the Express
Arsenal have been criticised for having a soft center with many feeling they need of a physical presence to play alongside the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, and Carvalho would certainly fit the bill, so it’s no surprise to see the North Londoners linked with the powerful midfielder.
The Portuguese international is less likely to get regular game-time at Chelsea as the Premier League leaders already have one of the best central midfield partnerships in the division with Cesc Fabregas flourishing alongside Nemanja Matic, and it’s though that Jose Mourinho would view Carvalho as a squad player rather than a first teamer.

This could play a key role in the players decision if both Arsenal and Chelsea make their interest formal, but I’m sure they will also face stiff competition from clubs in Europe if the youngster did decide to leave Sporting any time soon.
