Shock Chelsea Swap Deal Could See Arsenal Miss Out On Top Target
Chelsea are the new favourites ahead of Arsenal to land Sami Khedira as Real Madrid line-up a potential swap deal involving goalkeeper Petr Cech.
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal could miss out to Chelsea in the race for Sami Khedira.
Chelsea are the new favourites ahead of Arsenal to land Sami Khedira as Real Madrid line-up a potential swap deal involving goalkeeper Petr Cech, according to reports.
Khedira is now in the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu and is expected to leave the European champions after turning down a contract extension offer back in June.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 27-year-old in recent months and the Gunners were thought to be leading the chase with reports last week suggesting that Khedira had already agreed personal terms over a January switch to the Emirates.
However, Blues boss Jose Mourinho remains a huge fan of the German international’s and is understood to be keen on linking up with him again after working together during his time in Spain.
It appears Chelsea are now considered as the new favourites to clinch his signature as the Express are reporting that Real Madrid are set to use Khedira as bait to try and land out-of-favour goalkeeper Petr Cech in what could be a sensational swap deal.
Cech lost his place to Thibaut Courtois in Mourinho’s starting eleven this season and has already confirmed he’ll consider his options in January, and it looks like Madrid are ready to offer him a fresh start in La Liga.
The European champions are reportedly on the look-out for a new goalkeeper with Iker Casillas tipped to leave this winter and with David De Gea expected to sign a new deal at Man Utd, the Spanish giants are now ready to try and land Cech on loan with the option to making the move permanent next summer.
A swap deal involving Khedira and Cech could therefore suit both Chelsea and Madrid but it would spell bad news for Arsenal as Arsene Wenger would miss out on one of his top transfer targets.

The Gunners are in desperate need of more steel in midfield and Khedira would have been an excellent foil for the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, but at this point it looks like the World Cup winner could be heading to Stamford Bridge leaving Wenger looking for alternatives targets.
