With the January transfer in full swing, managers are strengthening their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea close-in on the signing of Danilo Pantic….
The agent of Serbian youngster Danilo Pantic is in London thrashing out contract terms after Chelsea agreed a £1.25m fee with Partizan Belgrade for the midfielder, according to reports.
The Blues have been strongly linked with the 18-year-old in recent months and are believed to have sent scouts to watch the youngster in action regularly, but it appears they’ve finally made their move after learning of interest coming from Italian champions Juventus.
With Pantic’s contract running out at the end of the season and no sign of an extension being agreed, the Daily Mail claim that Belgrade have decided to cash-in and accepted an offer from Chelsea worth around £1.25m over the weekend.
The newspaper suggests that the players representatives have now travelled to London to meet with Chelsea officials where they will try and agree terms over a four-year contract.
Pantic is not deemed ready to push for a first team place at Stamford Bridge just yet, so he’s expected to be immediately loaned out to Vitesse Arnham for the second half of the campaign once the deal is officially completed.

The player is highly rated in his homeland and has represented Serbia at Under-19 level, so it certainly sounds like he could have a bright future in the game, but he’ll have a tough job forcing his way into Chelsea’s star-studded starting eleven any time soon as Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have forged one of the best central midfield partnerships in Europe this season.
