Liverpool will look to continue their push for the top four when they take on West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp has been holding his pre-match press conference ahead of the game this afternoon and he’s given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.

The German coach was pleased to confirm a major injury boost with the news that Daniel Sturridge could be back in contention for the trip to London this weekend.

Sturridge has been on the sidelines nursing a hamstring injury since the 2-0 defeat away to Newcastle United at the start of December but the striker has returned to full training and could feature against the Hammers.

However, Klopp also revealed that Divock Origi will continue to miss out as the Belgian international nurses a hamstring problem that he suffered during the Boxing Day victory over Leicester City.

The striker will be joined on the sidelines by James Milner as the midfielder continues to suffer from a calf problem which has kept him out of the last three games this month.

Klopp also confirmed that Joe Allen is a doubt for the West Ham game after being sent home prior to last night’s victory over Sunderland due to illness while the club are waiting to learn the full extent of Jordan Henderson’s heel injury after he was forced off during the second half at the Stadium of Light.

He told the clubs website:

“Maybe Daniel [can play] if we try. Milner and Origi no.”

“Joe Allen is ill. Yesterday afternoon the doctor told me we have to send him home so we have to wait for diagnosis there.”

“[On Henderson] I have no update now. We have to wait a little bit because it was something with the heel but it could good for him we all hope. We have to see.

“Everybody knows Hendo is a real tough guy and yesterday he tried and then we saw it’s not perfect and so come on lets change. Now we have to wait a few hours more or a day or two and then we know more. “

Liverpool head into the New Year sitting level on points with sixth-placed Manchester United and just five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham so Klopp will be desperate to close the gap with another win this weekend.
