Carroll Committed Despite Tevez Reports
Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has insisted he’s happy at Anfield despite recent reports suggesting the Reds tried to swap him for Man City’s Carlos Tevez.
The hefty price tag which Liverpool felt obliged to pay Newcastle almost a year ago has left Andy Carroll feeling immense pressure to prove his worth.
He is yet to complete a full season with Liverpool, but has already been labelled as a big-money flop thanks to a shaky start in which goals have been rare and a visible impact to the teams performance have been lacking. The FA Cup game against Manchester United was a precious positive point for the 23-year-old Englishman in which he performed with the energy, power and the determination which attracted Dalglish to splash the cash on the young man in the first place.
However, more is expected of Carroll and despite the Guardian reporting that Liverpool tried to swap him for Man City outcast Carlos Tevez, the striker is focused and ready for the challenge ahead. He’s quoted in the Telegraph as saying how he feels comfortable at Liverpool and has been welcomed well by everyone at the club:
“I love it here. All the lads are great with me in training and away from the training ground everyone has been great with me as well.”
Asked whether he regretted the move to Anfield from his former side whom are now enjoying unexpected success, Carroll continued:
“Not at all. The club has been great with me and I’m enjoying it here. Winning in midweek [against Manchester City in the Carling Cup] and getting to the final and then Manchester United coming here, beating them and getting through, it’s a great feeling.” He continued in the Telegraph.
Carroll has scored 6 goals in 35 appearances since his massive move a year ago, and has been very much outshone by his Uraguyan strike partner purchased at the same time, especially considering the label of the most expensive English footballer in history.
Publicly, Liverpool defend their man and support his progress, and with four and a half years left on his contract, he should have plenty of time to redeem his unimpressive start in a red shirt. But will Liverpool keep their patience with him?
